The 2023 recommended stipend for pulpit supply preaching is $200 per date, plus reimbursement for mileage at the non-profit rate of 14 cents per mile. In October 2021, COM approved a new rate of $100 for session moderation plus mileage to be effective January 1st.
PULPIT SUPPLY LIST POLICY
The Committee on Ministry maintains a Pulpit Supply List to assist churches in finding qualified persons who have been authorized by the presbytery to serve as pulpit supply preachers. Churches are not required to select guest preachers from this list for one-time events, although ongoing relationships will require COM approval.
All teaching elders who are members of the presbytery and who have completed both the background check and the COE Boundaries Training may request through the Committee on Ministry to be placed on the Pulpit Supply List.
Candidates from the presbytery who are certified ready to receive a call and who have completed both the background check and the COE Boundaries Training may request through the Committee on Ministry to be placed on the Pulpit Supply List. Their names must appear with a notation that they are not ordained and thus not able to celebrate Baptism or the Lord’s Suppler.
Teaching elders and candidates who are certified ready to receive a call, but who are not members of the presbytery may apply through the Committee on Ministry to be placed on the Pulpit Supply List if they have completed the background check and the COE Boundaries Training at their own expense.
Annually, all teaching elders and candidates whose names appear on the list will be asked to update their information.
